Queensland man Brae Taylor Lewis sentenced for setting girlfriend alight

A Queensland man who permanently scarred and traumatised his then girlfriend by setting her alight has been jailed.

Brae Taylor Lewis, now 22, attacked Kyesha Finemore when they were both 17 years old in Logan, south of Brisbane, in May 2016.

During an argument, he threw a beer bottle full of petrol at her, splashing her with the flammable liquid.

He then flicked a lighter which lit surrounding fumes and ignited the front of her body.

She suffered serious burns to her hands, arms, neck, chest, abdomen and left thigh and was placed in a coma in hospital.

On Thursday, Lewis was sentenced to nine-and-a-half years in jail in the Queensland District Court.

He will be able to apply for parole in six months’ time,…
